The Government of West Bengal (GoWB) has initiated the Social Registry project, also known as Annapurna Bhandar, to create a unified data system for social protection. This project is supported by the World Bank and aims to serve as a one-stop platform for the intake, registration, and determination of eligibility for various social programs.

The primary purpose of the Social Registry is to strengthen the coverage and targeting of assistance for poor and vulnerable groups within the state. The registry will form a crucial part of the ‘Jai Bangla’ platform, which proactively identifies citizens eligible for various benefits through a “Trigger Management Platform,” reducing the need for individual applications.

This initiative is tied to a broader state effort to create a unified portal for all Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, managed with assistance from the National Informatics Centre. The unified portal will facilitate everything from registration to disbursement from a single portal.
